Satya places third in state

Satya Hariharan, a seventh-grade student at Skyridge Middle School, won third place at the Washington State level of the 2011 National Geographic Bee Competition which was held on Friday, April 1, at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. Following Satya’s school-level win in January,  he took a written test and qualified to participate at the state level which included 100 fourth- to eighth-grade students from across Washington. Through rounds of elimination the number decreased to ten and then narrowed to a final three. The final contenders completed four difficult rounds of competition. Satya received a $50 reward and “The Complete National Geographic” on DVD in recognition of his outstanding performance.

We had 185 athletes turn out for track on Monday! We are so pleased to have a newly refurbished track this year. This marks the first year we’ll have our home track meets here instead of at Doc Harris.

We know you won’t want to miss a meet, so here is the schedule:

  • Thursday, April 28
  • Thursday, May 12
  • Tuesday, May 24
  • Thursday, May 26

Join us and support our kids!

Environmental Storytelling

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

On Earth Day, April 22, Skyridge students in all grades will spend a delightful hour listening to award-winning storyteller Will Hornyak weave his storytelling magic. Will is a master word-smith who captivates audiences of all ages with his original tales, seen through the lens of world conservation and environmental sustainability. His performance is sponsored by a generous donation from Erin Rowland through Clark County Solid Waste.

Check out his website to learn more about him!

It is the Battle of the Middle School Principals!

Come see Aaron Smith, Skyridge Principal, take on Marilyn Boerke, Liberty Principal, in the second annual Camas Iron Chef event! Both teams will include a professional chef and our own variety of local celebrities. This Camas Educational Foundation fundraiser will take place at Camas Meadows on April 27 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, and seating is limited. Register online at the CEF web site

CEF Phone-a-thon success!

The Camas Educational Foundation hosted the 10th annual Phone-a-thon the first week of March. With the help of students from Liberty, Skyridge and the CHS Key Club, CEF raised well over $14,000. Due to the snow days during the event, students may have been unable to reach you. If you would like to support CEF with a donation, you may do so securely on the CEF website

CEF is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that raises money to support curriculum in all Camas schools through teacher grants. Over $25,000 was awarded throughout the schools this February in mini-grants and another $25,000 will be awarded this May in major grants. All thanks to the generosity of people like you.

Hawks place 2nd at regionals

Skyridge Science Olympiad’s Blue team sent a monumental shock wave around Washington State with their surprise 2nd place performance at the SW Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on March 12.  This placement at the tournament earned us an invitation to the State Science Olympiad Tournament on April 16.  We are new to the game, but quickly becoming a legitimate competitor within an already strong arena of veteran Olympians.

In the Spotlight

Satya Harharan, our Geo Bee Building Champion, has qualified to represent Skyridge and participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee! The State Bee will be held on Friday, April 1, at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. Good luck, Satya!
