Skyridge Girls’ Cross-Country

Ready, set, GO! Come on Sky Hawk girls! It’s time to participate on our Cross-Country Team which is offered to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls. The season begins on August 23rd at 9:00 AM at Skyridge. Participation requirements include:

  • Current physical (good for two years)
  • Completed parent authorization form
  • Completed concussion form
  • Purchase an ASB card ($25) and athletic participation fee ($30)
  • Daily attendance/participation
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA

The Skyridge office opens August 20, 8 AM-3 PM. Come in and get signed up!

Practices are scheduled August 23rd-August 31, 9:00-10:30 AM and September 4 through end of season, 3:00-4:30 PM.

Skyridge 8th Grade Football

8th grade football is kicking off at Skyridge! Be a part of a team that works together towards a common goal. Learn fundamental football skills and terminology specific to the Camas football program. The season consists of seven league games and one bowl game which is based on our team’s record.

Gear checkout and first practice will be on Monday, August 20. Gear checkout – 4:00-5:00 and first practice 5:00 – 7:15 PM. Prior to the start of school practices will be held from 5:00-7:15 PM, Monday through Friday. After school begins pratices will be held from 3:00-5:15 PM. Information about the schedule and picture day will be forthcoming.

Participation Requirements:

All must be turned in at the Skyridge main office prior to participating. The office opens on August 20, 8 AM-3 PM.

Participants will need to bring football shoes, shorts and a t-shirt, jock/cup and a water bottle to every practice.

Skyridge Warren Award Recipients

We are proud to announce our 2012 Warren Award Recipients!

Hannah Taie is our Good Will Award winner! As a 7th grade Skyridge student, she consistently stands out as a highly sensitive, caring and compassionate individual. Hannah always has a smile and positive attitude to share with others. She is always eager to help whether in the classroom, track events, or simply around the campus.

The Jackson Leadership Award is shared by Andrew Carson and Noah White. As friends and classmates of the exiting Skyridge class, they share a common bond of strong leadership skills and wilingness to help others. Andrew demonstrated genuine caring for others each day as ASB President and is greatly respected by staff and students. He is a true leader and role model and encourages others to make a difference. Noah is an exceptional student and leader. He willingly accepts responsibilities without requiring reward or accolades. He consistently takes the high road and exhibits leadership daily by modeling good behavior, accepting responsbilities and helping others. He is trustworthy, respectful and always shows compassion toward others.

Free Sports Physical Opportunity for Student Athletes

Free physicals to our prospective student athletes are being offered on Thursday, July 26, from 6 to 9 PM at Providence Medical Group-Camas located at 3101 SE 192nd Avenue, Vancouver, WA. To schedule your appointment, please call (360) 816-2748. Bring your school’s required sports physical examination/clearance form to your appointment.

As a bonus, you can meet Brent Richards of the Portland Timbers, a Camas native. Brent will be visiting the clinic from 6:30 to 8 PM to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans.

 

Teacher of the Year – John Condon

Sky Hawk pride is soaring high! Skyridge 7th grade science teacher, John Condon, has been named one of two Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce Teachers of the Year! The tagline included on every e-mail Mr. Condon sends out states: “Kids don’t care what I know until they know I care.”  He feels that his greatest accomplishment in education is the relationships he’s built with students. Mr. Condon has been teaching seventh-grade science for 25 years and we are fortunate to have him here at Skyridge!

Mr. Condon will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, June 5, which will be held at the Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 NW Camas Meadows Drive. Social hour begins at 5:30 pm with dinner served at 6:30 pm. Cost is $35. RSVP to chandra@cwchamber.com or 834-2472.

Skyridge Book Fair Happening Now

Our Skyridge library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair and funds raised will go back into the library to provide books and online resources for our students. Online purchasing is a new option this year with a vast selection of books. There are countless book choices for everyone in the family. The online purchase option is now active at http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/default.aspx?f=3085318  and continues until June 12. Books purchased online are sent to our school for free. When checking out, you will notice the shipping charge is zero.  The “traditional” fair starts on June 8 and runs through June 18.

Incoming 6th Grade Student Transition

We are looking forward to having our future 6th grade students join us here at Skyridge next year. Preparations are currently happening to make this transition a smooth and enjoyable experience for our new Sky Hawks! All parents/guardians of these current 5th grade students are invited to an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, May 29, 6:30-7:30 PM in our main Skyridge gym.

Incoming 6th grade student visits/tours are scheduled as follows:
