Welcome to Prune Hill Elementary School, home of the penguins!  We currently are home to approximately 475 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  We also house the Camas School District’s SCORE program which provides academic support for high-functioning children with autism. We offer music education, physical education, library and media classes, as well as a fully functional computer lab.  We have a highly qualified reading specialist in our LAP Reading program, as well as special services available for those with individual needs.  The Camas School District’s Highly-Capable program is a cluster model offered in grades 3-5. Identified students are placed together in the same classroom for instructional purposes. These classrooms offer enrichment, acceleration, and/or curriculum compacting when appropriate in the content areas.

We are a committed group of teachers and staff members who work enthusiastically to ensure an environment that fosters academic and social growth through high academic and behavioral expectations.  I am very proud of the generous spirit that our students embody, especially when tragedy or disaster strikes our world.  In the past five years, student-led relief efforts have raised more than 2,500 dollars for relief efforts related to Superstorm Sandy (coin drive), hurricanes, Newtown, CT stuffed penguin drive, and most recently our Ocean to Ocean jogging program dedicated to Boston, where our students collectively ran over 6,000 miles in honor of those who cannot run.

We are dedicated to creating a kind and caring atmosphere in which all students can feel successful and be safe.  Part of that success comes from the strong ties between home and school.  We invite parents to participate in the classroom as a volunteer, accompany us on field trips, or become involved in the PTA (visit PTA site).   We keep parents informed of events through monthly electronic newsletters (sign up here), website announcements, and through student communication on a daily basis via student planners.  We encourage you to support our efforts by having your children consistently arrive on time, read together on a daily basis, and support strong study habits at home.   Together we’ll make a great team!
