Facts about Distracted Driving by Doug White

Distracted driving is the cause of 5,000 deaths, 330,000 injuries, and 1,600,000 accidents per year. Texting while driving is the same as driving after having four beers, and drivers are about 6x more likely to crash texting than while intoxicated. It makes you overall 23 times more likely to crash and is no different from driving blind for five seconds at a time.  Five seconds at 55mph covers the distance across a football field. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t feel safe on the road not knowing who is paying attention and who isn’t.

The best way to solve this is to let everyone know how dangerous distracted driving is – that text or call can wait a few minutes, the food isn’t going to get too cold, and wait to drink your coffee at a red light, not in the middle of the intersection or while crossing lanes.
