New student registration for preschool through 12^th grade is open now. Registration forms are available online at
www.camas.wednet.edu/registration/ or at the Camas School District Office located at 841 NE 22^nd Avenue in Camas.

Please note any additional items required for your student’s grade level.

Registration is by appointment only. District registrars are available Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For your convenience, evening appointments will be available Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 28 until 7:00 p.m.

Clark College Open House & Scholarship Workshop

Clark College is hosting an Open House and Scholarship Workshop on Tuesday, February 5^th, 2013. This event will be held on the Clark College Main Campus in the Gaiser Student Center from 5:30pm-8:30pm.

The event is open to all high school students who would like to learn more about the types of scholarships available, tips on how to search for scholarships, and how to write effective essays.

Poetry Out Loud

Ilse Villasenor, reciting the poem Bilingual by Rhina Espaillat, was chosen as the winner of the school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition held January 17 in the HFHS Commons. She will represent Hayes Freedom at the Regional competition on Thursday, February 7 from 5-7 p.m. at ESD #112 in Vancouver. Click on this link for directions to the facility at 2500 NE 65th Avenue.

Tiffani Pekkala was chosen as runner-up with her recitation of These Poems, She Said by Robert Bringhurst. All of our competitors were brave & poised in their presentations, demonstrating the Pride & Fearlessness we expect from HFHS Renegades.

This is the fifth year our school has participated in the event which is a national program sponsored by National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation in conjunction with the Washington State Arts Commission. Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure that starts at the classroom level. Winners advance from a school-wide competition to regional then state competitions and ultimately to the National Finals held in Washington, D.C.

Blood Drive

The bloodmobile will be in the Hayes Freedom HS parking lot on Tuesday, January 29th from 8:30 to 1:30 for our
Annual School Blood Drive in honor of student Tiffani Pekkala.

Students must be 16 to donate, with parental consent.

January Parent Meeting

Mary Jadwisiak will be at Hayes Freedom High School to present on the topic “Coping with Adolescence Stress and Depression.”

Ms. Jadwisiak is a dynamic public speaker who uses honest dialogue & thoughtful insight to help improve people’s lives.

Come join us at the HFHS Parenting Meeting this Thursday, January 10 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and learn about teenage stress and depression: signs & symptoms, management & coping skills, relaxation techniques, and how we adults can help.

Please join us Thursday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. as our students compete to represent Hayes Freedom HS at the regional Poetry Out Loud competition.

Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation program sponsored by National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation in conjunction with the Washington State Arts Commission. Running Start Informational Meetings

Current Sophomores and Juniors: Interested in Running Start for Fall Quarter 2013?

There are 2 optional Running Start Info Nights for those who are interested in entering Running Start the fall of 2013. Testing procedures and requirements for fall quarter 2013 entry will be explained at these meetings. Additional information about applying and testing will be posted on the Running Start website later this month.

Walk & Knock this Saturday

Hayes Freedom Renegades have made an annual tradition of joining the Walk & Knock program collecting food for those in need.

Please join us Saturday, December 1 at 8:45 a.m. We will meet at the school to organize groups of walkers then reconvene afterward, around 11:30.

Coffee, cider, and donuts will be available for volunteers!

Green Schools Summit encourages local students to take leadership roles in their communities

Hallway passes made from used Starbucks gift cards. A nontoxic, inexpensive cleaner. Recycling bottle caps instead of throwing them in the garbage.These were just a few of the ideas shared by students at the second annual Clark County Summit for Washington Green Schools.

Students from Grass Valley Elementary School, Skyridge and Liberty middle schools, and Hayes Freedom High School participated in the day-long event last Tuesday, along with their schools’ Green Team advisors.
