Make Art, Not Trash: Hayes students make art to educate about pervasive plastic pollution.
The “Make Art, Not Trash” public art project will be unveiled as a permanent installation at Hayes Freedom High School on Earth Day 2022. Conceived as a Camas Educational Foundation grant-funded project in early 2020, written by Hayes art teacher Miranda Wakeman, students have collaborated over the last two years to create an impressive triptych to send a message about the pervasiveness of plastic pollution. Environmental science classes learned about how plastics have made their way into animal and human food chains, with micro and nanoplastic now found widely in human stool and blood samples. The first phase of attention getting artwork design and creation is complete; phase two will involve more students creating infographics about the issues, and education about what people can do to help. The artwork will be unveiled on the hallway wall at 1pm on April 22nd, 2022. Plywood was generously donated by Mr. Plywood in Portland, laser cutting done by Bearded Boy Design, framing by Integration Workshop. For more information about this continuing project, contact email@example.com

Parents and students that are interested in attending Hayes Freedom in the fall are invited to come to our informational meeting on Thursday, March 24th, at 6:00pm.
*****We are taking applications for fall freshman enrollment.
Did you know that Hayes Freedom High School is an innovative school of choice for ninth-twelfth grade students?
Hayes Freedom High School was founded on the principle that not all students thrive in a large, comprehensive high school environment. If your student may benefit from any of the following hallmarks of HFHS, she or he might want to get to know us!
Hayes Freedom High School offers:
• Small class sizes; usually about 20 students per class.
• Longer, intensely focused classes; students take three 1:40 core classes with a 30 minute advisory each day. This allows students more time with teachers, time to work on projects in
class, and a deeper understanding of material.
• Intentional, project-based learning; Hayes students are encouraged by teachers to approach assignments and projects in creative ways focusing on the learning styles of individual
• Strong relationships; with only a maximum of 200 students and ten teachers, students will have the same teachers for several subjects over time. This cultivates a tight-knit community
where students know teachers and teachers know students. Attending Hayes is like joining a family “where everybody knows your name.”
Students and parents are invited to come to Hayes Freedom High School to find out about our program. Please call Kristi Thomas at 360-833-5600 to schedule an appointment.
